How to Choose an Elopement Videographer

As you have been searching for your perfect elopement videographer, hopefully you have seen many films that captivated your attention and moved you with emotion. It’s also likely that you stumbled across a few that felt a little cookie cutter or just plain cheesy. If you aren’t a videographer yourself, you may not be able to pinpoint what it is you don’t like about a video, you can just tell it’s not quite there. We’re going to walk you through a few elements that we think make a really good wedding film. These are the four things to look for in the films that you watch while searching for your elopement videographer: music selection, storytelling, coloring and variety of shots. We believe these are four things that make our wedding films so beautifully cinematic and emotive and four basic components that all wedding films should include. Here they are!

Music Selection

We care a lot about the music that goes into our films. We sometimes spend hours listening to track after track trying to find the right one or two that will give the right backdrop to the footage and audio that we capture from your day. We want music that portrays the right emotion that was felt on the day and that reflects the personality of the couple. Some couples have more light hearted and fun ceremony, while others have more intimate and emotional day. The music needs to help tell the story of your day and your love.

Coloring

The colors in the film shouldn’t be too orange or too blue, coloring is a difficult skill that takes years of practice. We pride ourselves on our detail to coloring. We take as long as we need to get the colors just right.

Storytelling

We like to use a nonlinear storytelling style. This gives us the freedom to jump to special moments throughout your day. We try to let the audio lead the storyline. In your vows you may talk about camping in the mountains together, this could be a spot in the film that we try and use some drone footage of the mountains you eloped in. Or if your officiant is talking about how much you two love each other, this could be a good place for us to use footage of you together from a couple session. Not having to show footage in order of the day, lets us use the footage to really tell your story.

Variety of Shots

The small close moments you see in our films are captured intentionally. A small caress of the hand or brush of the cheek really draw you in and help you feel the love between the couple. We also use many wide shots really capturing you into the scene around you. These shots make you feel like a mere observer of a beautiful moment in time. Using drone footage in our films adds an additional variety and lends another element of beauty and dimension to the film. Different types of shots portray different emotions and a wide variety of shots really help bring it all together.
