Planning an Elopement During Covid

We know that Covid has really thrown our world for a loop. It’s not only an emotionally difficult time with loved ones at risk, it’s financial hard time for many people. If you’re newly engaged and have no clue how to wedding plan in a pandemic—you’re not alone. Thousands of couples are in this situation and many are choosing to forgo a traditional pricey wedding and plan an adventure elopement instead. By choosing to elope with just your partner, you can stay within CDC recommended guidelines and have a perfect day together. Here’s how.

One: Find Your Vendors

By having a photographer and videographer at your elopement, you can have a beautiful cinematic film and photos to look back on in the years ahead! Although your friends and family won’t witness you say your vows in person, they will still get to experience the emotion all over again with you through film and photo. Once you have you have chosen the right photographer and videographer for your big day, you can focus on the fun part—planning! You can see the teaser from one of our recent elopement films here.

Three. Design your Ceremony and Reception

One of the great perks of eloping is getting married surrounded by nature. This in itself is all the decoration you really need. But of course it doesn’t hurt to bring a few pieces to make your elopement feel cozy and personalized.

The easiest way to create a designated space in nature is with a rug. What’s also great about a good rug is how versatile it is. You can use a rug for your ceremony site to stand on as you recite your vows, and you can reuse it to sit on afterwards to celebrate with a bottle of champagne and a picnic.

If your elopement location doesn’t require much hiking, consider bringing a small table and chairs. Foster Creative offers rental pieces that we can bring along for our couples.

Two. Choose an Elopement Location and Activity

We love to use All Trails and Atlas Obscura to help our clients find a unique spot to say their vows. There are many stunning places that require no permits. And if you decide to add an activity to your day like jeeping or rock climbing—we’ll be there to capture it!

Last, But Not Least. Plan Celebratory Food and Drink.

After one of the biggest moments of your life--taking the time to sit and celebrate and savor the memory together--that’s really special. At the very least we hope you bring a bottle of bubbly to pop after saying “I do.” But wouldn’t it be romantic to feed each other the dessert you had on your first date? Or to spend quality time together over your favorite cocktail and indulging in a charcuterie board? However you decide to spend your wedding, you won't regret celebrating your love the way YOU want to! Happy planning!
